Revenues of independent hospitals and clinics in the UK (excluding NHS pay beds) reached an estimated £2,846 million in calendar 2003, up 6.7% on the previous year. Revenue growth in 2003 was held back by medical insurance claims costs increasing by barely the rate of inflation, and static or even falling self-pay revenues, but supported by strong demand from the NHS.
